Academics and Life Skills

Homework Assistance & Computer Skills
We will continue to offer the after school homework assistance and computer skills training. From 3:00 - 4:30 children will receive help with homework or be able to have access to the computers. We have an education director and a staff of volunteers to assist the children. At 4:30, students are encouraged to participate in the tennis program. If students are participating in the homework assistance program, they should be prepared to do school work upon arriving at the center.

The First Serve Life Skills Program

Mission of the First Serve

First Serve is a youth empowerment organization that utilizes tennis to help youth acquire the skills, values, and experiences they need to be successful in life. First Serve presents tennis as a fun and engaging way to learn a broad range of age-appropriate life skills-resulting in "real life power" on and off the court.

We will include activities to emphasize development of the whole child-within their environment- to help them grow physically, mentally, and socially. Participants will move through three levels of the First Serve Program, acquiring an array of important life skills, among them how to communicate effectively, manage emotions, work as part of a team, set and reach personal goals, and deal with peer pressure. This program requires special training of the entire staff. There are three levels of curriculum: Game, Set, and Match. All children are required to participate in the Life Skills area of the program. Activities on and off the court will be presented the students as they progress through the First Serve Curriculum.
